This dish is commonly cooked in Asian counties, and in the Philippines, this is known to be as “halang-halang“, or spiced food. It is a perfect recipe for the fall season because of its spiciness. You can serve it with rice, bread or even when you are drinking with your buddies, otherwise known as “pulutan“, or finger foods (I mean, you can use the fork :))

When I first arrive in America, this was the first recipe that I tried making. I was so eager and ohh so born follower that I just have to stick to the recipe by detail per se. It turned out to be very good and a little spicy. A definitely must try BUT not for the low carb dieters out there.

Sauteed Vegetable with Shrimp Paste (PINAKBET)

Don’t mind the picture. My talent is limited to cooking and writing. I can bet I can make your mouth water with words alone but taking pictures is another  story. Anyway, this vegetable dish is sought after among us Asians, particularly Filipino people. This is a tasty mix of varied vegetables with shrimp paste. Even more better if the meat you use is pork with a little bit of fat. YUM! But since I ‘follow’ a certain diet (sounds like a dirty word), I had to substitute the pork with chicken. Taste is still good, but oh, you know one can always dream…

Kapampangan’s (native of Pampanga, Philippines) are renowned for their talent in cooking, and by golly the PINAKBET! Just delish…
